Lely: Calf to Cow Interface Design

Project Overview
Lely is a company with the goal of improving the life of farmers by using robots. The goal of this project was to design an application for Lely's new technology, which monitors the health and growth of calves. This design should communicate the information from Lely's technology to farmers in a user-friendly way. Click through the final prototype here.
My Contributions
Roles: UX Researcher, UI Designer, Prototyper
Date: Feb. 2021 - June 2021
Programs Used
Balsamiq Wireframes, Figma
Step One:
Research 🧐
I utilized two Research Methods to help me find answers to my research questions.

Desk Research helped me find information about how farmers influence calf growth, and about what farmers need to keep track of while calves grow.

I also performed two interviews: one with a Lely veterinarian, and the other with a Lely farmer. With their permission, I recorded these interviews and created transcripts, which were used for data analysis.
Step Two:
Define 📕

After researching and analyzing, it's time to define the problem and craft the Design Question, which will help me ideate.

Design Question
How might we help farmers be notified of important information while keeping their busy schedule in mind?

Step Three:
Ideate 💭

I decided to focus on doing a mobile application because it would give farmers the ability to check on their calves 24/7 and receive notifications.

Step Four:
Design 🎨

Now that I had my idea ready, it was time to start designing.

Reflection

I think my main success in this project was the communication I had with the client. I took every opportunity I could to get feedback from the client, which resulted in a lot of meaningful changes to my design that made the final product something I am very proud of. Now I have learned that in the future, I should prioritize client feedback. I was initially scared of client feedback but pushing myself to get it anyways was very worth it.
